Ricardo Báez (Caracas, 1983) is a graphic designer who focuses on editorial and book design. Interested in the relationship between design and photography. Involved with the development, edition, design and promotion of photographic projects in form of book or photobooks. He has participated in different jury prizes (Best Book Design from all over the World. Stiftung Buchkunst, Germany; FOLA® Photobook Award, Argentina and CDF Ediciones, Photography Center of Montevideo, Uruguay) and participating in photo-editorial teams (Fotorevista: Acacias-Common Books, England and SUR. Latin American Photobooks Journal, Argentina / USA / Spain). Between the most outstanding recognitions they are: 1st Prize Dummy Award Kassel 8. Kassel Fotobook Festival (2016), The Paris Photo-Aperture Foundation “First Photobook” Award (2017) and Best Book Design from All Over the World. Honorary Appreciation. Stiftung Buchkunst (2018); all these mentions associated with the book design of “Monsanto®: A Photographic Investigation” by Mathieu Asselin. Lately he has been nominated to The Paris Photo-Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards “Jurors’ Special Mention –Books About Books–” shortlist for the book “Printed Photography in Venezuela” by Sagrario Berti. He is the founder of the design studio called Tipografía Báez® together with his partner Andrea Gámez, who operate from Venezuela, working with design teams in Chile, Mexico and Argentina.
