Panel discussion w/moderator Maria Lyngstad Willassen
A variation of satellite-projects and initiatives outside the “mainstream” institutions have arisen across the world as dynamic and mobile outlets. These platforms enable independent curators and artists to display work without the need of operating within the constraints of the traditional physical, geographical and financial institutional frameworks. Close collaborations and knowledge exchange between artists, curators, designers and publishers results in exciting alternatives to the established gallery environment. Do these satellite projects change the way artists produce work and approach their practices, and are they pushing the traditional institutions to rethink their approach to dealing with artists and curators?
Throughout this conversation we will hear about different experiences of initiating and organising art projects from initiators, curators and artists’ point of view. Arts education and the ways in which satellite projects and unconventional opportunities might influence the ways in which photographic students produce work today will also be a focus. The lecturers have in common that they worked together on the Peckham 24 festival.
The talks will be held in English.
