Contesting photography's documentary status for a decade now, Max Pinckers has produced a number of projects that navigate around a set of critical questions. In a post-truth world, these questions have become even more relevant and pressing. In this talk with Sunil Shah, he discusses his work and processes and sheds light on the speculative futurity of the medium.

ARTIST
Max Pinckers (b.1988, BE) is an artist based in Brussels, Belgium. His work explores the critical, technological, and ideological structures that surround the production and consumption of documentary images. Documentary photography, for Pinckers, involves more than the representation of an external reality: it is a speculative process that approaches reality and truth as plural, malleable notions open to articulation in different ways. Max is in the Doctoral Researcher program in the Arts at School of Arts KASK.
